IATI is a global initiative to improve the transparency of development and humanitarian resources and their results to address poverty and crises.
Aid transparency data, on an open source platform
The International Aid Transparency Initiative, IATI is a movement to increase the transparency of how money is spent on humanitarian and development projects. The Development Portal gives anyone access to this aid transparency data through an intuitive dashboard.
This dashboard lets you search for keywords which you can use to filter the data sets. For example, if you search for “Refugees” you can see that Sweden has given the most funding for refugees almost 12 billion USD! You can also see which country - Turkey - received the most funding for programs helping refugees.
There is a beautiful heat map which visualized this transparency data, showing where the funding goes. It’s no surprise that there is a concentration of funding around Syria, Lebanon, Jordan and Palestine.
Another great thing about the d-portal is that it is completely open source, the code is available on a Github repository making everything about this data transparency platform transparent.
Over 1000 organizations including the WHO and UNHCR make their data transparent by submitting it on IATI.
